Custom fields help you store extra information about your contacts beyond the default fields. In Mailcamp, you can add audience fields for details like company, phone number, city, birthday, preferences, or any other data you want to collect and use later.
What custom fields are used for
- Store additional contact information inside an audience.
- Organize and personalize campaigns with more detailed contact data.
- Map extra columns correctly when importing contacts from a CSV file.
- Support signup forms and segmentation based on the information you collect.
Before you start
- Open the correct audience before creating fields, because custom fields belong to a specific audience.
- Decide what type of data you want to store, so you can choose the right field type.
- Keep field names clear and consistent to make imports and segmentation easier later.
Step 1: Open audience field settings
- Log in to Mailcamp.
- Open the audience you want to work with.
- Go to Manage audience fields.
Step 2: Add a custom field
On the audience fields page, Mailcamp lets you add different field types.
- Text
- Number
- Dropdown
- Multiselect
- Checkbox
- Radio
- Date
- Datetime
- Textarea
- Click the field type you want to add.
- Enter the field details such as label, tag, and any other settings shown for that field type.
- If you use dropdown, multiselect, checkbox, or radio fields, add the label and value options you want contacts to use.
Step 3: Save your changes
- Review the new field in the audience field list.
- Click Save change to apply the update.
How to use custom fields
- Use them when importing contacts from CSV files by mapping extra columns to the correct audience fields.
- Use them in forms when you want to collect more than just email address and name.
- Use them for segmentation when you want to target contacts based on profile data.
- Use them in personalization where your campaign content needs contact-specific details.
Important notes
- The Email field is a core field and cannot be removed.
- Choose field types carefully. For example, use Date for birthdays and Dropdown when you want contacts to pick one option from a list.
- If you rename or change fields later, review your imports, forms, and segments to make sure everything still maps correctly.
Once your custom fields are in place, your audience will be easier to organize, segment, and personalize inside Mailcamp.
