What domain alignment means

Domain alignment means the domains used in your email setup point back to the same sender identity as much as possible. This helps mailbox providers understand that the message really belongs to your brand.

In Mailcamp, alignment usually involves these parts:

  • From email domain: the domain recipients see in the sender address, such as [email protected].

  • Sending domain authentication: the DNS records Mailcamp gives you for identity, DKIM, SPF, and DMARC.

  • Tracking domain: the domain used for tracked links, if you use a custom tracking domain.

Good alignment does not guarantee inbox placement, but it gives your campaigns a stronger and more consistent sender identity.

Set up alignment in Mailcamp

Start by authenticating the domain you want to use for sending.

  • In Mailcamp, go to Sending domains.

  • Add the domain you want to send from.

  • Copy the DNS records shown by Mailcamp to your domain's DNS provider.

  • Add the identity, DKIM, SPF, and DMARC records exactly as shown.

  • Return to Mailcamp and click Verify Now.

  • Wait for the domain status to become active.

DNS changes can take time to update. If verification fails right after adding the records, wait and try again later.

Use a matching From email

After your sending domain is active, use a From email that belongs to the same domain.

  • Use an address like [email protected] when yourdomain.com is the verified sending domain.

  • Avoid sending from a public mailbox domain if you are sending brand campaigns.

  • Avoid using a From email from one domain while authenticating a different, unrelated domain.

  • If Mailcamp falls back to a Mailcamp sender address, check whether your sending domain is active and available for your account.

The closer your From domain and authenticated sending domain are, the clearer your sender identity becomes.

Check your DNS authentication records

Domain alignment depends on correct DNS records. Review each record carefully if your domain is not verifying or your campaigns are not passing authentication checks.

  • DKIM: confirms that Mailcamp is authorized to sign emails for your domain.

  • SPF: lists the servers allowed to send email for your domain. Keep only one SPF record and merge values if your domain already has SPF.

  • DMARC: tells receiving servers how to evaluate messages that use your From domain.

  • Identity record: confirms domain ownership for Mailcamp verification.

If you are not ready to enforce a strict DMARC policy, you can start with a monitoring policy and tighten it later after confirming your legitimate sending sources are authenticated.

Use a custom tracking domain

If your account uses a custom tracking domain, choose a tracking domain that belongs to your brand domain when setting up a campaign.

  • Use a tracking domain connected to the same brand as your From email.

  • Avoid using unrelated domains for tracked links.

  • Check the campaign setup before sending to confirm the correct tracking domain is selected.

This keeps the sender address, authentication, and tracked links more consistent for recipients and mailbox providers.

What domain alignment does not guarantee

Domain alignment is only one part of deliverability. It helps build trust, but it cannot override poor sending practices.

  • It does not guarantee placement in the inbox or Gmail Primary tab.

  • It does not fix problems caused by purchased or low-quality audiences.

  • It does not replace clean subscription forms, consent, and unsubscribe handling.

  • It does not prevent spam filtering if your content, engagement, or complaint rate is poor.

Troubleshooting alignment issues

If your domain setup does not look aligned, check these common areas:

  • Domain still pending: confirm every DNS record matches the value shown in Mailcamp, then click Verify Now again.

  • SPF fails: make sure your domain has only one SPF record and that all required sending sources are included in it.

  • DMARC fails: confirm the DMARC record is published on the correct host, usually _dmarc.

  • From email does not match: update the campaign sender address to use the verified domain.

  • Tracked links look unrelated: set up and select a custom tracking domain that matches your brand.

Once the domain, sender address, and tracking setup are consistent, send a test campaign and review the results before sending to a larger audience.
