Segments help you target the right contacts inside an audience. In Mailcamp, you can build segments using field-based conditions so you can filter contacts more precisely when sending campaigns or reviewing audience groups.
What segments are used for
- Group contacts based on profile data stored in your audience.
- Target campaigns to a smaller, more relevant set of recipients.
- Organize contacts by location, preferences, signup details, or any other field-based rule.
- Reuse the same saved audience logic later without rebuilding it every time.
Before you start
- Open the correct audience first, because segments belong to a specific audience.
- Make sure the audience already has the fields you want to use for filtering.
- Decide what condition or combination of conditions should define the segment.
Step 1: Open the audience segments page
- Log in to Mailcamp.
- Open the audience you want to work with.
- Go to Segments.
- Click Create segment.
Step 2: Name the segment
- Enter a clear segment name that makes the group easy to recognize later.
- Use a naming style that helps your team understand the segment at a glance.
Step 3: Add segment conditions
- Choose the audience field you want to filter by.
- Select the operator that matches your rule.
- Enter or choose the value for the condition.
- Add more conditions if you need a more specific segment.
For example, you might create a segment based on city, signup date, custom field values, or other audience field data available in Mailcamp.
Step 4: Save the segment
- Review the conditions to make sure the logic is correct.
- Save the segment.
- Return to the segments list to view the saved segment and its contact count.
How to use a segment
- Use a segment when choosing recipients for a campaign.
- Use it to focus sends on a more specific audience group.
- Edit the segment later if your targeting rules need to change.
- Review segment contacts to confirm the right contacts are included.
Tips for better segmentation
- Use clear segment names so they are easy to find later.
- Keep segment conditions simple when possible.
- Make sure the audience fields you depend on are populated correctly before building advanced filters.
- Review segment size before sending a campaign so you know how many contacts match the rules.
Once your segment is saved, you can reuse it any time you need to target that same group of contacts in Mailcamp.
